Walking Through the Door

 I am a firm believer that life is full of doors. We pass them every day in the form of opportunities, people, and experiences. Sometimes we choose to walk through a door and other times we choose to walk past.  Some doors we never see and some close behind us with a bang.  But always, always, always, where one door closes, another one opens up.  I have been looking for a door for many years that has just been opened to me, and I am walking through it at full speed.  I have been offered the opportunity to participate in the Invisible Children Teacher Exchange program. I will be spending six weeks this summer learning and teaching in Northern Uganda, with a teacher from one of the eleven schools supported by the Invisible Children organization. Education is the key to the success or failure of a people. It is through education that all children will receive the tools necessary to contribute to the welfare of their own society. Nelson Mandela said, "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children." and "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."

I will be teaching history and religion at St. Joseph College Layibi. This is an all boys school with 1200 students grades 7-12.
